Maria leads Potential’s development initiatives, manages collaborative partnerships and special events, and identifies new funding sources to help Potential realize its mission. With over 25 years of management and non-profit leadership that yielded a 250% increase in charitable gifts and engagement goals, Maria witnessed firsthand how instrumental philanthropy is in improving and saving lives. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and worked as a clinical cytogenetic technologist before embarking into a development path at Drexel and Temple Universities. Maria then joined the American Heart Association’s national team as Director of Donor Engagement/Central Region overseeing 16 states and then became the Executive Director at Books In Homes USA, a national non-profit organization that supports children living in under-resourced communities in literacy and beyond.

If asked why non-profits and charitable giving? Maria would say that ensuring others receive critical resources is paramount. Each of us has the power to positively change a child’s trajectory. Children should love themselves, feel empowered to celebrate their uniqueness, and receive the vital tools necessary for lifelong achievement.
